to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3.

Scientific Environment

The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at the TUM School of Engineering and Design and it is affiliated with the Integrative Research Institute (IRI) of Integrated Materials, Energy and Process Engineering (MEP) as well as the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We are seeking an expert in an interdisciplinary field of research that combines expertise in bioprocess engineering, automation, and process optimization . Furthermore, the candidate’s current research should apply modern methods of robotics, such as stochastic and data-driven learning approaches, precise monitoring and control using microcontrollers (μC), or novel methods of image processing. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate research experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning (e.g. deep learning) for process models, or the optimization of bioprocess development workflows across different scales (e.g. multi-fidelity Bayesian optimization). Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs such as Industrial Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Bioprocess Engineering.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected (please see for further information).
