AI Engineer - Model Training & Deployment

About the Role

This is an entry-level AI Engineer position on a hands-on ML and robotics team at an early-stage industrial robotics startup based in Munich, Germany. You'll work on developing, training, and deploying deep learning models that enable robotic work cells to perceive and act in real industrial environments — think surface finishing, welding, and protective coating.

You'll have real impact from day one, with room to grow into broader deployment and MLOps responsibilities as the technical stack matures. As an early team member, you'll also participate in equity.

No visa sponsorship is available for this role. This is a fully on-site position in Munich.

What You'll Do

• Train and implement deep learning models as part of the core robotics product.

• Iterate on model architectures and training pipelines to improve real-world performance.

• Support deployment of trained models to customer and edge environments.

• Collaborate closely with the ML and robotics team on the core technical roadmap.

• Contribute to getting models running reliably in on-site and edge customer deployments.

• Design and run reproducible experiments, tracking results with rigorous evaluation metrics.

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

• 1+ year of hands-on experience training deep learning models using Python and PyTorch (academic, thesis, or industry projects with documented results).

• Experience with Docker for model deployment and environment replication.

• Comfortable working in a Linux / command-line environment.

• Experience deploying trained models to customer or production environments.

Nice to haves:

• Familiarity with Slurm or other cluster job scheduling systems.

• Experience with ONNX or other model export / interoperability tools.

• Interest in or experience with edge computing / on-device deployment.

• Cloud deployment experience.

• Background in computer vision or robotics.

• Familiarity with data versioning tools (e.g., DVC).

• Fluent in English; German language skills are a plus.

Location & Work Arrangement

This role is fully on-site in Munich, Bavaria, Germany . Candidates must be available to work from the Munich office. Visa sponsorship is not available.
