Engineer - 6G Network Architecture Standards

Huawei Heisenberg Research Center (Munich) is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

The Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL) is responsible for research activities towards the definition and development of mobile network technologies and communication systems for vertical industries. AWTL has been engaging with multiple research and standardization activities, including participating to European Commission funded research projects of Horizon 2020 framework, contributing to industrial communication fora as 5G-AA, 5G-ACIA, transferring technologies to standardization bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, NGMN, and developing in-house experimental platforms, prototypes and proof of concepts on wireless and networking technologies. Recently, AWTL focus has shifted to next generation (6G) wireless networks and technologies, towards 2030.

You will play the leading role in native AI for 6G research, and you will work in a team with experienced researchers as well as experts of industry organization leadership teams.

Your mission

• 6G & AI Research and Strategy Development:  Lead and develop 6G network architecture related research and innovation, e.g. AI-native 6G networks, agentic AI, etc
  

• Standardization related activity:  Support 3GPP system architecture / ETSI related works as delegate or technical contributor, advocating company positions on 6G architecture, AI/ML frameworks, etc.

  • Lead technical proposals, contributions, and discussions on the related work items.

• Cross-Functional Leadership:  Mentor internal stakeholders on relevant standards, technology trends, and AI/ML implications and contribute to the internal research strategy development based on external ecosystem development.

Your areas of expertise

• PhD or equivalent in a related subject area, e.g. telecommunication, computer science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

• Proven track record as a delegate or active contributor to 3GPP standardization activities.

• Extensive and solid 5G Knowledge: 5G Core (5GC), SBA, network slicing, and service-based interfaces. Fluency in relevant 3GPP specifications and protocols.

• 6G Knowledge: Expertise in 6G use cases, network architecture design, and key enabling technologies.

• AI/ML Proficiency: good knowledge in foundation model, agentic AI. Experience in programming languages such as Python and relevant learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.

• Exceptional negotiation, diplomacy, and communication skills for global forums.

• Extensive experience with partnership cooperation in cutting-edge technologies.
