Patent Attorney (m/f/d)

Huawei's Heisenberg Research Center (Munich) is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

The European Intellectual Property (IP) Department is a full-function IPR Department responsible for all intellectual property matters in Europe for Huawei. It manages all patent licensing, litigation and IP policy strategy and activities in Europe. It supports protection of cutting-edge technologies generated by Huawei’s talented researchers in Research and Development Centers in Europe, as well as other aspects of portfolio management, including patent prosecution. It provides all legal and IP support for the standardization, open source, industrial ecosystem and technical cooperation activities in Europe.

European Patent Attorney (m/f/d)

Main Responsibilities:

1. Implementing Huawei’s global patent portfolio management strategy in Europe and focusing on strengthening claims to align with specific business goals and potential licensing and litigation scenarios;

2. Managing patent portfolios in various technical fields, including preparing, drafting, filing, and prosecuting of patent applications and office action response, in close cooperation with inventors, in-house colleagues and/or outside counsels, as well as reviewing and evaluating invention disclosures, claim charts, conducting interviews with examiners and patent applications/patents for commercialization;

3. Supporting patent and technology licensing and litigation activities in Europe, including preparing and reviewing the technical documents, performing patent infringement and validity analyses, in close cooperation with in-house colleagues and/or outside counsel;

Skill Requirements:

1. Master’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering/telecommunication, computer science, physics or a closely related field;

2. Partly qualified European patent attorney, a further European national patent attorney qualification is a plus;

3. At least 3 years of experience after European Qualifying Examination;

4. Experience at a top law firm and/or In-house experience with large information, communication and telecom companies;

5. Open-minded with the ability to collaborate and being keen to be challenged in a fast-paced commercial environment within a multinational team;

6. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (legal English) and a good command of German;

7. Collaborative and responsible team-player mentality;

8. Goal-oriented forward thinking and acting;
