Senior Communications Specialist (Global Communications)

WHO WE ARE

Proxima Fusion is Europe’s fastest-growing fusion company and the continent’s best-funded fusion player, as well as the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant.

Our concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach.

Turning these designs into a functioning fusion power plant requires excellence and ownership across every discipline, from physics and engineering to software, manufacturing, law, and business functions.

YOUR IMPACT

• Help shape how one of Europe's most ambitious deep-tech companies is understood by the world.

• As a member of the Communications team, you will lead the execution of our global communications workstream, translating company priorities into high-impact media engagement, executive positioning and integrated campaigns—ensuring the right stories reach the right audiences at the right time.

• Use communications to help secure financing, build trust, shape public debate and make one of the world's most ambitious engineering projects visible long before its impact becomes obvious.

• Own communications around Proxima's defining moments—from engineering breakthroughs to strategic partnerships and political milestones.

• Pair strategic judgement with exceptional execution, identifying the stories that matter and bringing them to life with creativity, precision and impact.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Global Media Relations

• Own Proxima's day-to-day media engagement in Germany and internationally.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all media enquiries and manage these with speed and sound judgement, ensuring responses are accurate, consistent and aligned with Proxima’s broader positioning.

• Build trusted relationships with journalists across business, technology, science and political media across our key markets

• Create high-impact media opportunities around Proxima's biggest moments through proactive pitching, interviews, briefings and lab tours.

Corporate communications and thought leadership

• Develop interview briefings, opinion pieces and executive messaging that position Proxima's leadership among the leading voices shaping the future of fusion, industrial innovation and European technology.

• Translate complex technical, commercial and political topics into compelling narratives for investors, policymakers, industry partners, future talent and the public, ensuring every communication reinforces Proxima's strategic positioning.

• Stay close to the political, policy and industry landscape, identifying opportunities where strategic communications can shape public debate, strengthen Proxima's credibility and advance the company's commercial and policy objectives.

• Proactively identify story angles, campaign ideas and emerging communications opportunities that help Proxima lead the conversation around fusion, industrial innovation and Europe's energy future.

Strategic campaigns and external engagements

• Turn communications priorities into integrated campaigns with clear narratives, audiences, channels, timelines and measurable outcomes

• Lead public relations for selected international conferences, sponsorships, exhibitions and executive speaking engagements—from opportunity assessment and messaging to content and delivery.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Program Delivery

• Build trusted relationships across Engineering, Finance, Public Policy, and Business Operations.

• working closely with colleagues across Communications and Brand & Content to deliver integrated communications programs.

• Lead external agencies and specialist partners, ensuring consistently high standards across every aspect of delivery.

WHO YOU ARE

Must-haves

• 8+ years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, public relations or strategic communications, ideally across agencies and high-growth technology companies or startup to scale-up environments.

• A strong network of or the credibility to quickly build trusted relationships with German and international journalists across business, technology and science media.

• A track record of leading integrated communications campaigns from strategy through execution, including managing agencies and external partners.

• Native or fluent German, with exceptional writing and communication skills, in both German and English.

• A strong understanding of how strategic communications can shape public debate, influence policy conversations and support business objectives.

• An entrepreneurial mindset with the initiative to identify opportunities, take ownership and drive communications forward in a fast-moving environment.

• Exceptional organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-profile priorities simultaneously.

Nice to have

• Experience in deep tech, energy or another highly technical, highly regulated industry.

• Experience in political or policy communications

• Experience supporting fundraising or investor communications.
