What you'll do:

Join the team behind SAP's Event Data Platform (EDP)- a mission-critical cloud platform that powers event ingestion, stream processing, and analytics for SAP products used by millions of users worldwide.

Our platform processes massive volumes of events in real time and enables capabilities ranging from logs management and metering to AI-powered business scenarios. As SAP continues its transition toward becoming an AI-first company, our team plays an important role in building the data foundation that powers intelligent applications while actively adopting AI throughout the software development lifecycle.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll have significant ownership over the platform's architecture, implementation, and operations, working in a highly collaborative team that values engineering excellence and continuous learning.

Your tasks will be:

• Design, develop, and operate large-scale distributed systems that process continuous event streams.
• Take end-to-end ownership of features—from architecture and implementation to production operations ("You build it, you run it"), including paid on-call duties.
• Build high-performance backend services and streaming applications using Scala, Kafka, and cloud-native technologies.
• Manage IaaS cloud infrastructure and associated technologies, especially AWS (S3, IAM, Networking, RDS…).
• Work with relational databases (Postgres).
• Drive architectural decisions, evaluate new technologies, and develop proof-of-concepts for future platform capabilities.
• Optimize reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence of production systems.
• Collaborate with engineers across SAP to enable innovative platform capabilities for internal product teams.
• Contribute to SAP's AI transformation by building platform capabilities that power AI-driven products and by leveraging modern AI development tools to accelerate software delivery.
• Mentor teammates, review designs and code, and help raise the engineering bar across the team.

What you bring:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience with Scala, Java, Go, C#, or another modern object-oriented language.
• Experience designing and building backend or distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, Git, and modern DevOps practices.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, clean code, testing, and system design.
• Experience working with Linux and networking fundamentals.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
