Mobility Analyst - McKinsey Center for Future Mobility (m/f/d) - Ingenieur, Business Analysis

McKinsey & Company
München

YOUR IMPACT

As a Mobility Analyst within the McKinsey Center for Future Mobility, you will join one of three departments depending on your background:

  • Mobility Consumer Insights — Bringing the voice of the customer into strategic decision-making for leading automotive and mobility players worldwide. This includes conducting quantitative and qualitative research projects such as surveys, interviews, and focus groups, as well as analyzing consumer data from questionnaires, discussion guides, and research frameworks.
  • Mobility Components — Working at the forefront of component and technology trends critical to automotive suppliers, from autonomous driving and E/E centralization to software evolution. You'll build expertise on vehicle domains and supplier market dynamics, and project OEM production shifts around the globe, including the growing Chinese footprint in Europe.
  • Mobility Electrification and Automotive Demand — Developing forward-looking perspectives on electrification, charging infrastructure, fuel retail, and automotive demand to support strategic decision-making across the mobility ecosystem. This involves forecasting EV adoption, sales of new and used of cars/trucks, vehicle parc, and charging infrastructure development, while analyzing electrification economics, competitive dynamics, and commercial opportunities.

You will have the opportunity to work both with McKinsey experts as well as directly with clients, where you will develop and customize business insights and model outputs. This involves using latest AI tools to develop proprietary AI-driven tools for our assets and clients (e.g., Cursor).

You bring a passion for mobility and sustainability to help develop and deploy cutting-edge capabilities and market projections to support our clients. Ideally, you will also bring automotive or mobility expertise and analytical skills to bear. We expect you to develop industry-leading expertise in the above-mentioned McKinsey Center for Future Mobility knowledge domain and to participate in further building our mobility insights and tools.

This is a highly entrepreneurial role with significant space for initiative taking and personal growth. You’ll have the opportunity to gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to our firm. You will receive exceptional training as well as frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues across our firm.

You will be based in our Munich office in Germany as part of the international McKinsey Center for Future Mobility Solution with approximately 40 colleagues worldwide.

You will join a young, growing, entrepreneurial team focused on developing distinctive insights and intelligence tools and deploying them to McKinsey’s mobility clients (e.g., OEMs, suppliers, micromobility players, charging operators, private equity).

You’ll work with mobility enthusiasts and experts within our McKinsey Center for Future Mobility on solving our client’s most challenging questions on their way towards a successful and sustainable future.

The McKinsey Center for Future Mobility is our firm’s think tank developing new perspectives and counseling clients on trends in shared mobility, electrification, autonomous vehicles, and consumer sentiment. Thus, we are at the forefront of the sustainable mobility transition and help business leaders and policy makers solve the world’s mobility problems for society, industries, and individuals.

YOUR GROWTH

Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.

In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues—at all levels—will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients. Every day, you’ll receive apprenticeship, coaching, and exposure that will accelerate your growth in ways you won’t find anywhere else.

When you join us, you will have:

  • Continuous learning: Our learning and apprenticeship culture, backed by structured programs, is all about helping you grow while creating an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real magic happens when you take the input from others to heart and embrace the fast-paced learning experience, owning your journey.
  • A voice that matters: From day one, we value your ideas and contributions. You’ll make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions. We not only encourage diverse perspectives, but they are critical in driving us toward the best possible outcomes.
  • Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 different nationalities, our firm’s diversity fuels creativity and helps us come up with the best solutions for our clients. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from exceptional colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • World-class benefits: On top of a competitive salary (based on your location, experience, and skills), we provide a comprehensive benefits package to enable holistic well-being for you and your family.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree in engineering, business, business informatics, economics or another STEM (science, technology, mathematics)
  • 2+ years of professional experience (incl. theses and internships)
  • Background in, or strong interest in automotive and mobility, and a willingness to specialize in the area and bring related expertise to McKinsey teams and clients
  • Strong analytical background with quantitative skills; strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills are a minimum requirement, preferably with GenAI and vibe coding proficiency and data visualization (e.g., Cursor, Claude, Tableau)
  • Adept at managing key stakeholders (internal & external), confidence/ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, oftentimes ambiguous environment with senior stakeholders
  • Strong process management skills, autonomously coordinating multiple workstreams in parallel and with foresight
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written; German a strong plus
