Counsellor Primary School CC (m/f/d)

Your duties

• Models the values and professional demeanour as expressed in the BIS Mission, Vision and Mandate.
• Deliver developmentally appropriate activities and services directly to students or indirectly for students through collaboration with other school personnel and teach and/or support the Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) Programme.
• Recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources as well as provide short-term support to students in line with the role of school counselling.
• Share strategies supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators and BIS community organisations as well as provide parent/teacher consultation and support as needed.
• Support crisis intervention and contribute to the wider school culture through involvement in classrooms, assemblies, after-school activities, and field trips.
• Collaborate with the Head of Student Wellbeing & Community Welfare on school-wide activities to support student wellness.
• Assist in the development of student Individual Education Plans and/or inclass support plans where counselling is needed and liaise with the school nurse to support students who are in need of counselling support.
• Maintain a directory of referral agencies and professionals.
• Assist the principal, pastoral leaders, and teachers with transitioning new and departing students in and out of BIS.
• Practice and support guidelines and safeguards regarding “Privacy and German data protection laws” as well as gain familiarity with German law regarding school children.

Your profile

• A master's degree or higher in school counselling, social work, or counselling psychology or the equivalent from an accredited graduate school.
• Counselling experience within a school setting.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• A strong awareness of child protection and a commitment to ensure the safety of our students.
• An understanding of the experiences of EAL students, LGBTQ+ students, students with learning disabilities, and students in transition.
• Maintain standards of privacy as provided by German data protection laws and ASCA standards.
• Enthusiasm for working with a diverse international student population.
• Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate framework and mission statement, preferred.
