Professorship of Knowledge Translation in Prevention and Health Care
in accordance with Art. 67 Para. 3 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (Thuringian Model)
commencing as soon as possible.
The professorship is located at the Institute of Medical Data Processing, Biometrics and Epidemiology (IBE) at LMU Munich, and is being advertised jointly with the LGL.
The professorship will focus on improving the quality of routine processes in the public health service, on supporting the translation of evidence into policy and practice, and on further developing the collection and utilization of digital data. It will also strengthen the development, implementation and evaluation of different approaches to primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and conduct research into innovative healthcare as well as preventative interventions. Where appropriate, it can also progress new public health themes at the Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research and address opportunities and risks of digitalization in public health.
With a teaching load of 2 hours per week during term time, the professorship will represent and advance content with a focus on public health services in the Master degree programmes in Public Health and Epidemiology as well as in the medical curriculum (MeCuM). It will also be involved in the specialist training programme for Public Health physicians.
The LMU offers an excellent interdisciplinary research environment in Munich. The Professorship for Knowledge Translation in Prevention and Health Care will contribute to the further development of the Pettenkofer School of Public Health, a co-operation between LMU Munich, Helmholtz Zentrum München and LGL, with activities in research and teaching as well as in public health practice.
The successful candidate appointed to the joint professorship will be Director of the Department of Health I Prevention, Care, Epidemiology, E-Health at the LGL. This is an appointment in accordance with Art. 67 para. 3 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act, i.e., without the LMU establishing a civil servant or employment relationship with the Free State of Bavaria. The LGL concludes an employment contract under private law with the person appointed jointly by LMU Munich and LGL on the basis of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). Alternatively, if requirements are met, the candidate may be appointed as a civil servant grade A BayBesG . If a civil servant status already exists, a transfer of grade up to a maximum of grade A 16 BayBesG is possible. For the duration of employment at the LGL, the appointment to the professorship and the conferral of the status of a member of the LMU in the group of full-time university professors will hold.
LMU Munich and the LGL are requesting applications from highly qualified scientists, preferably physicians, who - after having completed a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification - have demonstrated excellent potential for a career in science and the ability to carry out independent research and teaching with a scientific weight equivalent to that of a professor.
As the successful candidate will be the Director of the Department of Health I Prevention, Care, Epidemiology, E-Health with currently five specialist areas and around 120 employees, we are looking for applicants with solid and comprehensive specialist knowledge across the areas of responsibility. Ideally, the successful candidate will also have several years of personnel and budget responsibility in larger organizational units, experience in organizational development and quality management, outstanding social skills, in particular strong leadership skills, the ability to work in a team, to deal with criticism and conflicts, and a high level of resilience.
