Ground Control Station Technician (all genders)
About Us
STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.
Weâre focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systemsânot future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europeâtoday.
About the team
Minerva is STARK's command and control software â the brain that connects operators to autonomous systems across multiple domains in real time. The Minerva team is a small, senior software group based in Berlin and Munich, working directly with our systems and hardware teams to build mission-critical C2 capabilities deployed in active operational environments. We move fast, ship real software, and operate under constraints most engineers never encounter â low-bandwidth networks, air-gapped devices, high-stakes decision loops. There is no room for abstraction for its own sake. Everything we build ends up in the hands of real operators in the field .Your mission
Support the development, integration, testing, and operation of drone ground control stations with a strong focus on radio systems and field-ready communication setups. You will work hands-on with real hardware, antennas, power systems, and cabling, helping to build robust and operationally reliable GCS solutions for demanding environments. A key part of the role is the integration, configuration, and practical use of Silvus radio systems in test and operational contexts. You will contribute directly to making our ground control stations more reliable, maintainable, and ready for customer and mission-specific requirements. This role is strongly hands-on and includes regular testing in outdoor and field environments.Responsibilities
GCS Integration: Assemble, integrate, and optimize hardware components within drone ground control stations, including laptops, radios, networking equipment, antennas, and power components.
Radio Operation: Configure, integrate, and operate radio systems as part of GCS and communication setups, ensuring stable and field-ready performance.
Antenna & Mast Systems: Support the setup, testing, and optimization of radio links, antenna configurations, and related communication hardware in realistic operational conditions.
Hardware Interaction: Ensure reliable and efficient interaction between all hardware and system components within the ground control station environment.
Cabling & Build Quality: Design, implement, and maintain clean, robust, and serviceable cable management solutions for mobile and operational deployments.
Power Management: Support energy and power management concepts, including battery-based systems, charging concepts, and fallback power supply solutions.
Outdoor Testing: Conduct hands-on testing, experimentation, and iterative system improvements on test sites and in outdoor environments with drones, radio systems, and antennas.
Customer & Operational Adaptation: Support the adaptation of GCS and radio setups to customer-specific and operational requirements.
Documentation: Document system setups, radio configurations, hardware dependencies, and test results in a clear, structured, and maintainable way for internal use and customer handover.
System Completion: Support the completion and readiness of ground control stations in order to support Supply Chain Management and Production.
Qualifications
Experience: Around 5 years of professional experience in a technical, mechanical, electrotechnical, or systems-related field. Stronger junior or mid-level candidates can also be considered if they bring the right hands-on profile.
Radio Systems Knowledge: Good hands-on understanding of radio systems, antenna setups, and communication links. Experience with additional radio systems from Silvus is a strong plus.
Hands-On Mentality: Strong practical mindset with the ability to solve problems directly on hardware, in workshops, or in field-testing environments.
Power & Cabling: Experience with power management concepts, wiring, cabling, and robust physical system integration.
Field Readiness: Comfortable working outdoors on test grounds and performing practical system tests with drones, antennas, and communication equipment.
Adaptability: High level of adaptability and willingness to work in a dynamic, experimental, and continuously evolving engineering environment.
Communication: Solid English skills are required, ideally around C1 level. Solid German skills for technical communication and documentation is plus.
Team Fit: Ability to work collaboratively in a small, cross-functional team and communicate clearly and reliably.
Clearance: Ability to obtain appropriate security clearance (EU/NATO).
Nice to have
Experience with military, defence, or security-related environments.
Military background or prior exposure to tactical communication systems.
Experience with other tactical or professional radio systems in addition to Silvus.
Familiarity with Bundeswehr requirements or operational deployment contexts.
Experience with networking equipment, field integration, or ruggedized technical systems.
Experience with Linux systems
Experience repairing or working with composite, foam, or plastic structural components.
Experience with Silvus or Radionor radios
