ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys turning ideas and proof-of-concept code into robust, maintainable, and observable production systems. This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering and data-driven product development, and is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership across the full software lifecycle. You will work closely with engineering leadership, data science, cloud infrastructure, and product management in a fully remote, high-trust environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Improve and modernise a legacy PHP system, extracting and migrating business logic into modern Python services
• Refactor data science notebooks and scripts into clean, modular, production-ready Python code
• Build and maintain data-driven backend services, APIs, pipelines, and scheduled jobs
• Design, deploy, and operate small to mid-sized production systems with clear interfaces and observability
• Improve system reliability through code reviews, automated testing, monitoring, and incremental refactoring
• Collaborate closely with senior technical stakeholders across engineering, data science, cloud infrastructure, and product
• Coordinate with additional engineers where required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

• Strong Python engineering expertise, including software architecture, modular design, and testing
• Proven experience building and maintaining production-ready software systems
• Hands-on experience with backend services and APIs
• Confident use of Git in a professional, team-based environment
• Solid understanding of deployment, monitoring, and system reliability
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote setting
• Must be based in Europe

Desirable

• Experience with PHP, particularly refactoring or legacy system modernisation
• JavaScript and basic frontend development experience
• Familiarity with analytical databases such as ClickHouse
• Experience with workflow orchestrators such as Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster
• Background in energy, IoT, or data-intensive products
• German language skills
